Embed this book. Version. Naval Law and Discipline A. Introduction 19A1. Sources of naval law. Naval law is the body of rules prescribed by competent authority for the government and regulation of the naval forces. There are two general sources of naval law, written and unwritten.

The sources of written law are: (1) the Constitution of the United States; (2) statutory enactments of Congress; and (3) Navy Regulations. The textbook of instruction during this time period was the Manual of the Supply Corps. Naval Boards of Inquiry are called to examine all particulars concerned with the event in question, and to determine facts and cause, corrective action, and disciplinary action, if called for by the findings and suggestions of the inquiry.
